A FORMER Colne woman who was Fleetwood’s oldest resident has died in her sleep aged 105.
Mrs Maggie Dinsdale, née Walne, died at the Mariners Court care home in the seaside town last Thursday after living there for a number of years.
She was born at Prospect House in Colne and was educated at Lord Street Primary School and lived at Birtwistle Avenue and later Stag House before going on to live in Burnley, working in a mill.
Mrs Dinsdale was married to the late Mr Richard Dinsdale and the couple retired to Fleetwood because she used to love visiting the seaside on childhood holidays.
She was well known to family for being “fiercely independent” and was outgoing too, climbing Pen-y-Ghent at the age of 60 and enjoying her other hobbies including baking and knitting. During her life, Mrs Dinsdale crocheted more than 300 blankets for charity.
She was the last of her generation at the local Methodist Church in Fleetwood and enjoyed nothing more than looking out at the picturesque views from her home.
Isobel Green, Mrs Dinsdale’s niece, said: “She was a marvellous woman and was like a second mother to me. She will be sorely missed by all.”
Mrs Dinsdale leaves behind her daughter Joan, grandson Stephen and great grandchildren Kerryanne and Russell.
Her funeral will take place at Burnley Crematorium at 1-40 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29th. Contact Denis Hartley and Son Ltd Funeral Directors, Colne on 870800.
