twO Pendle schoolgirls have been crowned as British under-16 girls ballroom dancing champions.

Sophie Commons, of Nelson, and Katie Dallison, of Earby, won the title against 22 other pairings in the Winter Gardens, Blackpool.

Sophie, a pupil at Pendle Vale College, Nelson, and Katie, who attends Primet High School, Colne, are pupils at the Sanderson Dance Centre, Nelson, and have been dancing together for five years.

The girls were presented with a trophy for their success and teacher Gemma Bynert received a certificate.

Sophie’s mum Jo-Anne said both girls were delighted with their success. “They danced very well, and everyone is so pleased they managed to win,” she said.
