BARNOLDSWICK’S Centre Screen Cinema is rolling out the red carpet as it celebrates its birthday on Monday.

Audiences are invited to dress as their favourite film idol to the 10-30 a.m. and 2 p.m. screenings, and everyone participating will receive a small prize.

Lindsay Gaskell from the volunteer group that runs the cinema said: “We’ve got great audiences with star quality at the Rainhall Centre. I’m sure there will be plenty of bling and perhaps the odd limo as well.”

The cinema at the Rainhall Centre was set up in 2009 to provide entertainment for Barnoldswick and the surrounding area following surveys of teenagers showing it was their top priority for new facilities in the town. The cinema operates in a multi-use room at the centre with raked seating, digital projection and surround sound, during the first and third weekends of each month and some weeks during school holidays.

Lindsay said: “We have a good team who put in around 100 hours each cinema session. At busy times, over 1,000 people can use the cinema in a week.

“Because of licensing restrictions, we can’t charge for most of the films we show and depend on donations to cover running costs. Pendle’s Community Safety Partnership has supported us with grants since we began and both town and borough councils helped us with set-up costs.

“As well as showing films, the cinema group has got involved with film-making and the cinema facilities have stimulated films like the Fernbank Mill Chimney demolition. The Town Council now gathers video footage of events and activities on a regular basis with media production company The Reverb Factory, and this footage can often be seen on our big screen.”

To celebrate the third birthday during half-term there is a full programme of daytime and evening films. Children’s adventure movies are being shown at 10-30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on most weekdays. Evening sessions featuring some romantic titles to mark Valentine’s Day begin at 7 p.m. A full programme of films is available at the Rainhall Centre, or by calling 01282 818250.
