A 57-year-old truck driver from Trawden has stormed through to the semi-finals of BBC quiz programme Mastermind.
Martin Short beat of stiff competition from three other contestants with his specialist knowledge of the Pendle Witches.
He answered eight questions correctly on the subject and then topped up his score with a further 12 points in the general knowledge round.
A former Pendle councillor, Mr Short grew up in Trawden before moving to Keighley Road in Colne and finally settling in Staffordshire.
He said: “Being on Mastermind was a very scary experience, I’ve been on other shows like the Weakest Link before but they didn’t compare.
“It’s different performing in front of an audience, especially with people you know in it.
“I chose the Pendle Witches as my specialist subject because I had lots of books on them and I had helped to set up the Pendle Witch Trail while I was on the council so I knew a lot about them. I didn’t do as well as I would have liked but luckily my general knowledge round made up for it.”
Martin has now reached the semi-final of the programme where he will answer questions on the rock band Deep Purple.
