AN actress from Colne will be beamed into the nation’s living rooms over the coming weeks as she stars in a primetime television drama.

Former Park High School student Amy Strange is appearing in “Homefront” a drama about the lives of military wives at home, which started a six-week run last Thursday.

The 26-year-old who has previously had roles in “Casualty” and “Law and Order”, is also filming a new BBC drama to be shown in November.

She said: “I really enjoyed making ‘Homefront’. I play the part of Keeley, a friend of one of the wives. It is a very topical story, considering the number of women whose husbands and partners are fighting in Afghanistan. It is a story that needed telling I think.”

Amy, whose mum Wendy lives in Trawden, and dad Stephen in Blacko, has been in London for five years.

She studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama after catching the acting bug at school. Strange is her stage name – she was born Amy Simpson but actors’ union Equity does not permit members to share the same name. “There was already an Amy Simpson in Equity so I chose Strange, which is my mother’s maiden name. I prefer it, I think it counds cool.

“Acting is my passion and I’m lucky enough to now do it as a career. When I was younger I had small parts in shows at Pendle Hippodrome, and for Burnley Youth Theatre. Then, when I was 17, I started to do more serious acting at Borderline Theatre Company in Colne.

“‘Homefront’ is the longest-running series I have been in. I also enjoy writing one-man plays and there are always festivals to appear in around London. I have just finished filming an independent film called ‘Four Walls’. I would love to do more film work. I find there is more of a creative buzz and excitement on a film set than a television set, which can be more formulaic. I am just enjoying keeping busy at the moment and hope I can land some other interesting roles.”
