Colne family duo drive up funds for hospice

Melissa and Roy Jarvis of Town Stoves in Colne will raise funds for Bluebell Childrens Charity during their drive of the UK.

Melissa and Roy Jarvis of Town Stoves in Colne will raise funds for Bluebell Childrens Charity during their drive of the UK.

A DEDICATED father and daughter duo from Colne have completed a three day charity challenge in their unique Fiat car.

Roy and Melissa Jarvis travelled an impressive 1,780 miles, taking in sights at Lands’ End and John O’Groats, in a bid to raise funds for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

The pair took it in turns to get behind the wheel, and kept themselves entertained throughout the tiring trip by listening to the radio.

Melissa (20), who owns Townstoves, in Skipton Road, Foulridge, came up with the idea after being touched by an advertisement on television.

Father-of-three Roy (46), of Harrison Drive, said: “We loved every minute of it.

“The weather was absolutely fantastic, apart from over in Scotland where there was a bit of snow.

“We had a lot of response from people driving past us. They were taking photos and videos, because it is a unique little car.

“We definitely will be doing something again — a lot more is in the pipeline.”

Among other ideas, Roy is hopeful that he and Melissa will be able to raise even more money for the hospice by organising a Europe trip. The total raised from their most recent trek is yet to be confirmed.

Anybody that would like to make a donation can call in at Townstoves, in Skipton Road, Foulridge, or ring 01282 868330.
