IT is a firm family favourite, and an essential part of the traditional Sunday roast.

In fact, the yorkshire pudding is such a popular trimming in households up and down the country that it is now the subject of an annual awareness day.

British Yorkshire Pudding Day was launched back in 2008, and last Sunday The Alma Inn, in Laneshaw Bridge, decided to join in the fun by paying homage to the delicious delicacy.

Although conventionally associated with beef, head chef Andrew Heywood proved that there are endless possibilities when it comes to the golden pud — by concocting a whole menu around it.

While established meals, such as Toad in the Hole, and Beef Stew and dumplings, were on offer. diners were also given the opportunity to taste more unique dishes.

These included the Yorkshire Assiette dessert — a trio of mini yorkshire puddings stuffed with a selection of desserts, including raspberry cheesecake and sticky toffee mess.

General manager Ryan Taylor said:“We’ve received some fantastic feedback from our customers in regards to our first Yorkshire Pudding day, so much so that we have begun looking at further National Days to take part in.

“We’ve set our aim to actively move with the seasons and demonstrate this within our menus, while continuing to work with our local suppliers.”

And Mr Heywood added: “With well over 250 eggs used, it’s safe to say that the day went down well, and from Ryan’s feedback it seems that our customers loved the dishes as much as we did.

“It’s nice to be able to look at these kinds of days to allow myself and the team to continue to stay in tip top form, while coming up with new ideas to ensure the Inn keeps on trend.”

l The Alma Inn recently celebrated a record year in 2012, recently collecting the coveted “Les Roustiers” seal of approval.
