A TALENTED Pendle youngster is hoping to follow in the footsteps of her pop idols Jessie J and Adele after bagging herself a place in the regional finals of a talent competition.

Amy Ann Colvin (11), a pupil at Sacred Heart Primary School, Colne, was one of 200 to attend TeenStar auditions at The Palace Hotel, in Manchester.

And from within her pre-teen category, she was one of just 18 to earn herself a place in the next phase of the contest.

The classical pop artist, who lives in Simpson Close, Barnoldswick, said she has been left “overwhelmed” by the judge’s response, and is now ready to battle against other competitors to bag herself a spot in the national finals at London’s 02 Arena.

Proud grandad Vincent Colvin, who is originally from Halifax, said: “She is putting her heart and soul into it for her great gran, Kathleen “Kitty” Colvin Carroll. She is over the moon that she has got through”

This is not the first time that somebody from Amy’s family has been thrown into the spotlight. Back in 2010, her cousin, Sinead Carroll appeared on Britain’s Got Talent, but was told her act — which involved her playing a guitar while on a pogo stick — was “stupid” by Simon Cowell.

Amy, who is receiving bucket loads of support from the likes of her mum Sharon and younger brother Francis James (3), is now preparing for her next audition at Manchester’s Northern Royal College of Music on April 7th.

TeenStar, a national search for the best teen and pre-teen singers, singer/songwriters, rappers and vocalists of all genres, is the brainwave of Future Music — the producers of Open Mic UK that has unveiled acts such as Birdy and Hatty Keane.

Chris Grayston, events coordinator for TeenStar, said: “We are looking to find an act that has something unique to offer, another Birdy that can go all the way, with both the ability to deliver a strong live performance but also potential to become a professional recording artist.”

If Amy were to get through to the latter stages of TeenStar, she will have the opportunity of showing her talent off to many guests from record labels, agencies and the entertainment industry.
