Barrowford Show cancelled - but It's A Knockout to go ahead

BARROWFORD Show has been cancelled due to the bad weather this week.
But the threat of further rain has failed to stop a local company's charity efforts.
Despite the popular Barrowford Show - due to be staged on Sunday - becoming the latest victim to the summer's bad weather, fundraisers from Daisy Communications, Nelson, will be ploughing ahead with their planned "It's a Knockout" event on the day.
While Barrowford Park and Bullholme Playing Fields will remain off limits due to the wet ground, Barrowford Cricket Club will be welcoming revellers.
Raising money for the Prince's Trust, "It's a Knockout" is offering free entry and entertainment. "We were determined this event would go ahead," said daisy spokesman Katharine Butler.
"There had been many jokes about it becoming 'It's a washout', but that only made us more determined.
"While it is sad Barrowford Show has had to completely cancel its itinerary of events, we are confident we can provide some sunshine for the community with our giant costumes, ridiculous wigs and many a comedy tumble.
"As there is no longer an admission fee to enter the grounds we are hoping our event will attract many families now at a loose end."
The show will commence at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
