NELSON Brass Band officials have good reason to blow their own trumpets this morning.
For the band has been chosen by the North West NHS to appear on its redesigned Internet website - www.northwest.nhs.uk.

Photographer Jason Lock has been commissioned to take pictures across the region to depict regional landmarks and people as we
ll as health care staff.

These will also be used in the NHS annual report and other corporate publications and hopefully, will give the band some much needed publicity.

• The fourth section band is currently recruiting additional players to achieve the full complement required.

Fortunately, it is able to borrow from neighbouring bands at present, but this can be difficult when both bands have engagements on the same day.

The band is hoping that the photographs on the website will encourage local brass players in the area to come and join them.

It has also recently engaged the help of David Holland, current musical director of the first section Haslingden and Helmshore Band, to help in its quest to improve the standard of playing and hopefully attract more players.

He arrived at Haslingden some 15 years ago and through his expertise, raised the standard of the band, taking them from fourth to first section. Hopefully, he can help the Nelson band to achieve the same result.

The band currently rehearses on Monday evenings upstairs at Nelson Old Brass Band Club in Barkerhouse Road from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and welcome players in all positions. For all inquiries, please telephone the secretary on 841663.
