CHARGES against three of four people accused of murdering a former Barrowford businessman in South Africa have been dropped.

Father-of-six Mr Fred Picton-Turbervill (46) was shot dead at his home in Pretoria by armed robbers in front of his wife and youngest children in January.

Petro Morkel, Rafel Thembe, both from Mozambique, and Cynthia and Lucky Ntuli, of Tembisa, were accused of his murder. But the charges against Thembe and the Ntulis were withdrawn at Pretoria Magistrates' Court.

Morkel will face trial for murder and robbery charges at Pretoria High Court, although no date has been set. He is also due to stand trial on October 23rd with two other men for the murder of a primary school principal at her home in the same Pretoria suburb on January 27th.

Mr Picton-Turbervill, a former captain of Calder Vale Rugby Club, Reedley, had a furniture business called D'Urberville Design in Barrowford.
