A 45-year-old Nelson man has been charged with putting a police helicopter at risk by aiming a laser pen at it.
Christopher Rhodes, of Highgate, is charged that, "on May 7th, 2008, at Nelson he recklessly or negligently acted in a manner likely to endanger an aircraft, namely the Lancashire Constabulary helicopter, or any persons therein".

Rhodes was granted police bail until May 30th when he will appear before Pennine magistrates.

The helicopter was involved in a chase which had started in Greater Manchester and ended in Nelson, where the laser incident occurred.
Rhodes is thought not to have any link to this initial operation.
