Man (49) victim of vicious town centre attack

POLICE in Burnley are appealing for witnesses after a 49-year-old man was brutally assaulted in the town centre, leaving him with a broken nose and fractured cheekbone.

The victim, from Nelson, was making his way along Yorkshire Street towards the town centre between midnight on Saturday and 5-55 a.m. on Sunday when a vehicle a pulled up alongside him.

A man got out and shouted at the victim before punching him in the face.

He was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital for treatment but has since been discharged.

Police are now urging any witnesses to come forward.
