Nelson shopkeeper fined over counterfeit clothes
THE husband of a Pendle councillor has been fined £1,300 for having counterfeit goods on display in his clothes shop.
Mr Mohammed Ansar, of Ashton Drive, Nelson, husband of Cloverhill ward councillor Eileen Ansar, told trading standards officers who visited the Slick clothes shop in Manchester Road in December he had bought the 222 articles of clothing and 80 pairs of footwear in Manchester, believing them to be genuine.
Appearing before magistrates sitting at Reedley in a prosecution led by Lancashire Trading Standards, Ansar admitted eight charges. He was ordered to pay £664 costs and an deprivation order was made in respect of the seized goods.
The court heard the items would have had a street value of up to £10,000.
