SHOPPERS and residents in Barrowford lined the main road to watch the men and women of the Nelson and District branch of the Royal British Legion escort their new standard through the village.
Led by Nelson Brass Band on Saturday, accompanied by the standards of RBL branches from other parts of Lancashire and further afield, with contingents from the cadet units, St John Ambulance and the emergency services, the impressive procession left St Thomas's Church, where the new standard was dedicated by the Rev. John Hallows.

It wound its way down Church Street and then along a flag-bedecked Gisburn Road to the saluting dais outside Holmefield House. The salute was taken by the Vice-Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire, Mr Rodney Swarbrick, the Deputy Mayor of Pendle, Coun. Shelagh Derwent, and Lt-Col John Downham, president of the Lancashire RBL.

Coun. Derwent, the mayor-elect, welcomed everyone to a civic reception at Barrowford Civic Hall.
