POLICE have appealed to the criminal fraternity for their help in tracking down conmen who have targeted the elderly in Nelson.

This follows the third distraction burglary inside a week at the home of an 86-year-old woman in Marsden Crescent last Friday afternoon.

Last week there were two separate incidents at the homes of women in their 90s, one in Ringstone Crescent and the other in Barrowford.

In the latest burglary, a man called at the woman's home purporting to be working for Pendle Council. He was allowed access and left shortly afterwards in the direction of Rowland Avenue. The woman noticed her purse containing £35 had been stolen.

Sgt Matt Henderson said: "We are very concerned at the targeting of vulnerable elderly people in this way and would ask anyone in the criminal fraternity who has anyone information to contact us."
