Police seal off Barrowford house after man spotted on roof

POLICE surrounded a house in Carr Hall Road, Barrowford, for three hours after a man was spotted on the roof.
An ambulance stood by near the scene for more that two hours in case of injuries, and a police negotiator was called in to try to persuade the man to come down.

The man was reportedly spotted on top of a chimney on the house, and items were allegedy thrown off the roof. He eventually did come down, and an arrest was made.

The incident happened between around 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Friday.

Det. Insp Dave Groombridge, head of Nelson CID, said: "Police contained the area and called in a negotiator. Several hours were spent talking to the young man on the roof and eventually he came down."

Ben Smith (19), from Nelson, was charged with affray and criminal damage to the roof. He appeared before Pennine magistrates on Saturday and was remanded until tomorrow.
