PENDLE Council's environmental health department has asked for a review of the premises licence granted to Enlightened Entertainments Ltd, of Carr Head, Trawden.
This year, the entertainment company held its Shamania Festival on farmland off Gisburn Old Road. Last year, it was held on another farm site at Noggarth on the boundary between Roughlee and Barrowford.

Earlier this year, it was granted a premises licence on both sites but opted for the one at Salterforth.

Residents at the monthly meeting of the council's West Craven Committee last week voiced a long list of complaints but Shamania does have its supporters, who describe it as being "well run, family friendly, no dogs, no glass and no fighting, which is more than can be said of Colne centre on a Friday or Saturday night".

However, County Coun. Mike Calvert said: "Fears about the effects of the festival on local residents and the locality were raised in good time to ensure maximum effort to minimise problems could be implemented.

"These concerns appear to have gone largely ignored and one thing which is certain is this sort of event must never again be allowed to take place in the area. It is disgraceful that the pleas for assistance from Blacko Parish Council went unheeded and many lessons for Pendle Council should be learned."
