POLICE have advised people against leaving property on view in their vehicles after two vans were broken into over the Easter weekend and items valued at more than £2,000 stolen.
The two thefts take the total of similar incidents in the Nelson area to 20 in the last six weeks.

Sgt Mark Baines, of Nelson police, said: "Even if you are only going to be away from your vehicle for a few minutes, lock your expensive goods away.

"If you are going to buy tools, don't take other items with you - leave them at home."

The fist of the latest offences occurred at B&Q betwen 1 p.m. and 1-30 p.m. on Monday when a tool box containing items worth £1,000 was stolen from a Mercedes Sprinter van.

The second took place at Nelson Plumbers Merchants in Manchester Road, between 4-30 p.m. and 5-15 p.m. yesterday, when thieves forced the locks on a Nissan Vanette and stole a Toshiba lap-top, a Casio Exil digital camera, a Nokia mobile phone, clothes and luggage.
