A WOMAN was held captive in a house in Nelson and suffered injuries which needed hospital treatment, police have revealed.
The 26-year-old victim escaped twice but was allegedly taken back to the address in Railway Street, Nelson, on the first occasion by her attacker, a man of Asian appearance.
The incident happened on Thursday, lasting from 4 p.m. to 8-30 p.m. and Det. Sgt Steve Holgate, from Nelson CID, said: "Although this incident took place inside a residential premise, on two occasions the female managed to leave the address and run down the street.
"On the first occasion, she ran down Railway Street carrying her four-month-old child in her arms. While fleeing, the victim managed to shout to a white female who was walking in the locality. The victim was pursued by her attacker. He took hold of her, returning her to the address."
DS Holgate added: "On the second occasion, approximately 8-30 p.m., the female managed to flee to another address in Railway Street and the police were called. As she ran, she passed a young Asian male who it is believed lives locally.
"We are particularly keen to trace the white female and the young Asian male seen in the area of the attack. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have information relating to it are urged to contact DC 6000 Joanne Pemberton at Nelson CID on 472651 or call Crimestoppers, free and in confidence, on 0800 555111."
A 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged with false imprisonment, threatening to kill and assault in connection with the incident. He appeared before Pennine magistrates on Saturday and was remanded in custody until Friday.
