An ace amount of funding has been served up at a Colne academy to help transform its sports facilities.

Colne Primet Academy has netted up £716,000 of government capital funding, following a highly competitive process. The successful bid, which was supported by Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson, will see work commence on the sports’ hall, gym and changing rooms in July.

It is hoped students will be enjoying new state-of-the-art facilities before Christmas.

The Dent Street academy, which is sponsored by Nelson and Colne College, has a career focus and is especially keen to promote health and wellbeing to all students.

Anita Ghidotti, executive principal, said: “We are delighted to secure almost three quarters of a million pounds to completely transform our sports facilities.

“It will give our students, both current and future, an amazing resource. The facilities will be used across the entire curriculum, so the whole school will benefit from this huge investment in our academy.

“We know that our students deserve the best, and we are determined that they will have the best.”
