Speculation was mounting this week that the empty Tesco supermarket in Nelson town centre may be reopened by another retail giant.
Rumours have been circulated intown that Aldi was planning to reopen the store in Leeds Road, which closed in 2010 with the loss of more than 100 jobs.
The shock closure, which came at a time that Tesco was creating hundreds of jobs, occurred just two years after the store opened.
Before that, it had previously been a Kwik Save store which closed in 2007.
A spokesman for the German company’s Manchester press office refused to comment on the mounting speculation it was set to move in when we spoke to them on Wednesday.
The leader of the Labour group on Pendle Council, Coun. Mohammed Iqbal, said that although he had heard the rumour himself, he knew nothing more.
There were also rumours circulating in Colne at the weekend that some staff had already been recruited by Aldi to work at the store.
