Children and staff at The Alternative School in Barnoldswick had the chance to experience the hustle and bustle of Parliament on a trip to London.

On the educational trip, the group enjoyed a tour of The Houses of Parliament before sitting through a debate where they recognised famous faces such as Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn and Speaker John Bercow.

While on tours of the Houses of Commons and Lords, pupils were mesmerized by the ornate decorations inside Westminster and were fascinated by facts including that the speaker used to have to pull a curtain around him so he could use a chamber pot as he was not allowed to leave the hall to use the bathroom.

Andrew Stephenson MP later met the pupils and staff at Downing Street where he explained the different Government buildings.

Children then went on the London Eye where they were able to point out London landmarks and they also visited the National History Museum, the Science museum and Leicester Square.
