Angry residents have hit out after a grass verge was completely destroyed by a lorry.

According to Coun. Neil Butterworth, locals have been left fuming after the verge outside the Morris Dancers pub in Venables Avenue was damaged.

It had only recently been repaired, and now Lancashire County Council has said it will be installing steel bollards to protect the verge from further damage.

Coun. Butterworth said: “This is very annoying as it’s only recently been repaired by the council.

“There is plenty of room for a lorry to turn out of the car park. There’s nothing tight about it - you can get round there with a double decker bus.

“There’s no excuses for this, it’s just bad driving and I’m not impressed.

“If anybody sees a lorry, or car for that matter, driving over our grass verges like this, please take down the licence plate number and we can report them.”

And Alan Capstick, Lancashire County Council’s highways manager for Pendle, said: “It’s frustrating that the grass verges have been damaged by this inconsiderate driving, as they were only recently repaired. We’ll be carrying out work to repair the verges on both sides of the entrance.”
