PENDLE MAYOR MAKING 2011: The new Deputy Mayor of Pendle Coun. Asjad Mahmood.'Photo Ben Parsons

Coun. Asjad Mahmood is to take up the role of Mayor of Pendle for 2012/13.

Coun. Mahmood, a Labour councillor in Whitefield ward, was nominated by Coun. Sheena Dunn and seconded by Coun. Mohammed Iqbal at a meeting of Pendle Council after spending the current year as deputy mayor.

Coun. Smith Benson, of Horsfield ward, representing the Conservative party, was nominated by Coun. Tony Beckett and seconded by Coun. Mike Blomeley as the new deputy mayor, subject to him being re-elected in next month’s elections.

The pair will take up their positions at the council’s annual meeting on Thursday, May 17th.
