CHILDREN at Gisburn Road Primary School’s nursery are delighted with the latest addition to their playground - a giant wooden train.

The toy was paid for by the Friends of Gisburn Road Association, which has already enhanced the play areas across the road at the infant and junior sites.

School secretary Heather Broughton said: “We can’t get the children off the train.

“They were telling me how they had been all over the country on it on the first day!”

Nursery teacher Judith Peckover said the choice of a train was made by the nursery children with the staff after looking at pictures on the internet and in books.

She said: “It’s brilliant for them to have the train outside as they didn’t have anything like this before.

“It’s really improved their role-playing skills and they’ve had to learn to take turns nicely on it and who is going to be the driver.

“They are all very excited about it and keep asking when they can play on it. It’s become a big part of their day.

“We’ve also had lots of positive comments from parents about it. It has been a big success.”
