Barrowford drink-driver sorry for ‘monumental error’

Scales.
Scales.

A Pendle drink-driver, caught more than twice the limit, told Burnley magistrates he had made a “monumental error”.

Steven Bancroft (40) had been followed by police who suspected he might have come out of a nearby pub at about 12-45am. He failed a roadside breath test and at the police station blew 75 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit is 35.

Bancroft, of Park Street, Barrowford, admitted driving with excess alcohol on Pendle Fields, Fence, on December 12th. He was fined £250, with a £25 victim surcharge and £85 costs and was banned for 17 months. The defendant had no previous convictions.

Bancroft, who was not represented by a solicitor, told the justices: “I made a monumental error – a mistake. I apologise for it.”
