Barrowford woman Miss Alice Lord has celebrated her 100th birthday.

And the youngest of four sisters and four brothers has lived in the same house in the village all her life!

Miss Lord, who was educated at Barrowford Primary School and spent all her working life as a weaver, last working at County Brook Mill, Foulridge, celebrated her special day at home with family and friends.

Among the messages of congratulation were ones from the Queen and the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Iain Duncan Smith.

Her nephew, David Ormerod, said: “She had not been well for a few days before her birthday but the day seemed to lift her spirits.

“There were 17 people there at the start and more came later on.

“It went very well and she really enjoyed it.”

Miss Lord is the second member of her family to celebrate a 100th birthday - one of her brothers, Alan, lived to the age of 102.
