Colne’s efforts in this year’s Royal Horticultural Society Britain in Bloom have been rewarded by the judges – at the double!
The town overall was awarded silver gilt status in the large town section – missing out on gold status by only two points and confirming the town’s status in the top 10 towns in the country.
And committee member Mike Osborn, who has played a prominent part in Colne’s success over the years, was presented with a special discretionary award in recognition of his innovation and commitment to the cause.
In their report, the judges said the standard of well-placed horticultural displays was very high. The rail station was of particular note, as it has been transformed into a welcoming entry point into the town. They felt the variety and quality of plants in barrier planting, containers and baskets were of high quality, continuously spaced through the town, and said that cultivation and maintenance was generally of a very high standard.
