A Barnoldswick couple enjoyed a diamond day when celebrating 60 years of marriage.

Bryon and June Lingard, of Gledstone View, were inundated with well wishers last Thursday and continued the celebrations over the Easter weekend when they had a party at The Tempest Arms at Elslack with all of the family.

Bryon (82) and June (78) were instrumental in the growth of the Majestic Church in Barnoldswick after moving to the town in 1976 from Rimington where they were leading lights at Martin Top Chapel.

The couple first met on a double decker bus and it was love at first sight. They tied the knot at Martin Top on March 24th, 1956 and had a honeymoon in Llandudno.

The Lingards had two children, Dawn and Caron and for most of their working life had market stalls across the North West selling shoes.

Bryon said: “It was great to have all of us together, we had a lovely time.

“We have had so many friends and visitors come and see us and we have had so many flowers.

“The church was tremendous on Sunday morning. We received a fantastic bouquet from the church, with sparkly bits in to represent the diamonds.

“We have had terrific lives and we still have.

“I think we just feel blessed, blessed and thrice blessed.”
