Burnley gets least Government housing cash in Lancashire

AN £83,000 Government bonus handout given to Burnley is the lowest in Lancashire.

The cash is for having new homes in the area and can be spent in any way.

It recognises the role housing plays in putting an economy on the road to recovery.

It was announced alongside a £13,092,450 grant to Lancashire to be shared between areas with ambitions for economic growth.

The £83,442 compares with £1,031,472 for Blackpool and £1,044,254 for Chorley.

Nearer home, Rossendale receives nearly three times as much as Burnley, with £217,111, Pendle has more than twice as much, with £193,192, as does the Ribble Valley, with £179,645. At nearly twice as much, Hydnburn, on £115,313, is next to the bottom of the league, one place above Burnley.

Housing Minister Grant Shapps said: “The New Homes Bonus recognises the efforts that have been made over the last year to deliver thousands of new homes and bring empty properties back into use.”
