Meeting over plans for 200 new homes in Colne

A COMMUNITY meeting has been called for Wednesday night to discuss a planning application to built 200 homes around the “sidings” off Knotts Lane in Colne.

The meeting, to be held at Primet Community Centre opposite Colne Railway Station, has been called by magistrate Ian Graham, Labour candidate for Waterside Ward in the Pendle Council elections in May.

He said: “Many years ago, residents formed a campaign group called ‘Get Knotted’ to fight an application to build on land adjacent to Gib Hill which successfully persuaded the council to reject the application and even had the Government support local residents.

“Once again we are facing a big housebuilder who hasn’t got a clue about the housing needs of people in Colne who is hell bent on destroying our natural habitat and destroying the only green lung we have between Colne and Nelson.

“If what I am hearing from concerned residents is true, in that Pendle Council officers have encouraged this application, then it is truly scandalous and the full information should be presented.

“Irrespective of this we need to get the council to look at bringing back into use the hundreds of empty homes we have rather than finding ways of destroying our green spaces.”
