A Nelson construction company, which operates a turnover of £75 million, has been recognised at the LABC Building Excellence Awards.

Barnfield Construction, based on Kenyon Road in Brierfield, were the delighted winners of two accolades at the event as they scooped the top prizes for 'Best Site Agent' and 'Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development.'

The company's very ow Russell Currie, who has been at the contractors and developers since 2003, picked up the award for 'Best Site Agent' for his work on the Sawley Hall development in the Ribble Valley, and said: "I’m overwhelmed.

There was a lot of hard work and hours put in [from] the whole team," he added. "It’s nice to be nominated but it’s a fantastic feeling to win it."

The award for the 'Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development' also went to Barnfield, with Graham Baxter's work as Site Manager on the 16-apartment development for the over 55s in Rawtenstall landing the prize.

Graham, who has been with Barnfield Construction for four years, commented: “It was great. Having your work recognised is a real honour.”
