Pendle has again had a key politician visiting. With the election campaign hotting up, the Secretary of State for Defence, the Rt. Hon Michael Fallon, was in Earby last week.

The senior Cabinet Minister accompanied the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Pendle, Andrew Stephenson, on a visit to Senior Aerospace Weston, where he took a factory tour and met with the company’s apprentices.

The long established Pendle-based firm became part of the Senior Aerospace group about two years ago and continues to go from strength to strength.

Currently employing 320 people in Pendle, the firm mainly works in the civil aerospace market, but also has defence contracts. Weston’s managing director Matthew Pemrick discussed the business with the Secretary of State, who takes a keen interest in Aerospace, having previously served as the Aerospace Minister.

Mr Stephenson, who himself is the vice-chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Aerospace Group, said: “I was delighted to take the Secretary of State for Defence to visit one of our great local aerospace companies.

“Our area is home to a large number of aerospace companies and I have been a strong advocate of the aerospace sector over the past five years. I know the Minister was very impressed by what he saw during his visit.”
