United Utilities engineers carrying out emergency work in a Foulridge street hope to restore water to homes by this evening.

Residents in Sycamore Gardens have been without water or have seen their supply reduced to a trickle all day after a burst water main was discovered at approximately 6am.

The complex nature of the leak, which is affecting approximately 30 homes, is taking longer to resolve than originally thought according to United Utilities.

A spokesman said: “We’re sorry to our customers’ in Sycamore Gardens who currently have no water.

“We have a team on site carrying out the necessary repairs to help get taps flowing again. We aim to have this complete this evening and ask those impacted to please bear with us.”
