Former Burnley FC boss Owen Coyle is set to be unveiled as the manager of FA Cup holders Wigan Athletic adding extra spice to the two Championship matches with Burnley next season.
Coyle would replace Roberto Martinez who left to manage Everton. Coyle has had a love-hate relationship with Burnley fans since he left the club, along with his entire backroom staff, to join Bolton during Burnley’s one season in the Premier League.
He was given a hostile welcome to Turf Moor on the opening day of last season and can expect an equally-vocal reception with his new club.
Coyle led the Clarets to the Premier League promised land thanks to a Championship play-off victory over Sheffield United at Wembley and enjoyed months of adulation before jumping ship.
His appointment would be bound to prompt a rush of reaction from Burnley fans.
