Marston’s have pulled out of a proposed pub on the former Glen Mills site in Colne.

The company confirmed that it would not be moving into the site off North Valley Road which is currently being redeveloped to include a Lidl supermarket, a pub, small industrial units and a car park with 131 spaces.

However, Marston’s stressed it was still interested in opening up in the town, just at the right location.

A Marston’s spokesman said: “We are interested in committing to Colne and we would like to progress plans when an appropriate site becomes available.”

Coun. Ian Tweedie, of Vivary Bridge ward in Colne, said the news was “big disappointment” fearing part of the site could remain undeveloped.

When plans were passed, it was said the new retail park would create approximately 80 jobs, and Coun. Tweedie believes the pub would likely have taken a decent percentage of those.

Coun. Tweedie said: “It’s a bit of a let down to be honest. The committee bent over backwards to make sure everything was right with the application.

“I don’t think it’s good for Colne or Pendle. The sooner we can fill that space with somebody on the retail park the better.”
