Nelson’s Town Team has this week revealed their two new representatives for this year.

Sally Burrell, store manager at Boots in Nelson is their new chairman and Lara Oddie, director at the town’s Oddies bakery is now vice-chairman.

They’ll lead the Town Team in delivering the Portas Pilot and addressing other important issues for the town centre.

And working alongside the Town Team will be High Street Champion Sue Hayes, store manager at Wilkinsons.

She has been selected by business-led charity Business in the Community.

And that selection followed their appeal to large high street retailers in Portas Pilot towns to link up with a Town Team to provide support and encouragement in delivering positive changes to the town.

In her role as High Street Champion, Sue will help develop relationships between local businesses and the Town Team.

She will also support them with their skills and experience and share the Town Team’s successes with colleagues, other businesses and other Town Teams.

She will be supported to carry out this role at a senior level and can draw upon their different areas of expertise.

Sally said: “It’s great to be championing Nelson, together with the rest of the Town Team.

“I started my working career in the town 20 years ago and have a passion for making sure Nelson has a very bright future.

“As a Portas Pilot town, we have lots of exciting opportunities available to us.

“I hope to do the best for Nelson, its retailers and the general public.”

Lara Oddie added: “Nelson is still a great local town with many good independent retailers.

“Oddies has been here since the 1920s so it is important to me that we try and help make a positive contribution to a successful future for the town.”

Sue Hayes said: “I am very pleased to have been selected as a high street champion and work alongside Sally and Lara to help support this year’s Nelson Portas Project.

“Wilkinsons is a community focused retailer and is committed to assisting the local people and businesses develop and share their successes.”

“As part of my role I will liaise closely with local high street retailers and the Nelson town team to ensure positive changes are created and implemented effectively.

“By championing these changes and achievements it will help maintain momentum and ultimately create a high street we can all be proud of.”
