A PENDLE business couple are celebrating on becoming the best independent greeting card retailer in the whole of the North of England and Northern Ireland.
Andrea and David Pinder of Fence who own the Albert Road card and gift store Party Planet were given the impressive accolade at the Retas Awards for their flagship sister store, Unit 7 Cards and Gifts.
The Manchester based store is situated within the Royal Exchange Arcade in St Ann’s Square and like Colne’s Party Planet stocks an array of cards and luxury balloons while also supplying wedding and occasion decor for various events.
And Mr and Mrs Pinder said they were “overwhelmed” when the recent achievement was announced during an afternoon of celebration among the entire greeting card industry.
Andrea said: “It’s just fantastic recognition of how hard we have worked within the industry. To be nominated for the whole of the North and Northern Ireland is such an achievement in itself as it is the biggest area. But to win is just fantastic.”
The award winning shop which has been open for eight years was nominated for the awards by suppliers.
The Retas recognise and celebrate not only the top independent and multiple greeting card retailers regionally and nationally, but also the new generation of retailers as well as employees of outstanding excellence.
“You are nominated through the company who you buy from and they put forward who they consider to be the best. We were chosen and put in the category of the top five best independent retailers,” Andrea added.
It will be the second time the couple has been nominated so this year they were elated to secure the award.
And they learned of their success at the at the Dorchester Hotel in London where a glamourous cocktail ceremony honoured members of the greeting card community.
Back in Pendle and Party Planet has just celebrated its 10th anniversary while another store has recently opened in Birmingham.
