With Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day falling on weekdays this year, Pendle Council is keen to alert residents to refuse and recycling collection changes that will affect some parts of the borough.
For the first time in recent years in Pendle, collections that are due to be made on Christmas Day will be done five days earlier, on Saturday, December 20th.
Residents who will not have a collection on Christmas Day are asked to put out their bins by 7-30am on that date, or on the night before if that is more convenient.
Boxing Day’s postponed collections will be done one day late on Saturday, December 27th, and postponed New Year’s Day collections will be caught up on Saturday, January 3rd.
Coun. David Clegg, who represents the council’s waste management team, said: “If anyone is unsure if their regular collection is affected by the festive bank holidays, they can check the calendar on the refuse and recycling leaflets which were delivered to all homes in Pendle recently.
“Users of the Binfo smartphone app can also get updates on their collections straight to their mobile phones.
“We’re also putting stickers on the bins of those households affected by the changes so everyone should be clear on when their Christmas and New Year refuse collections are.”
Pendle Council is also using its website and social media profiles to keep residents informed of changes to collections over the festive period.
There will be no garden waste collections at all for two weeks between December 20th and January 4th.
In the New Year, recycling crews will collect real Christmas trees for recycling between Tuesday, January 6th and Monday, January 19th on your recycling/garden waste day, or in rural zones, on the refuse/garden waste day.
