A talented hairdresser from Colne is all smiles after earning herself the title of Young Apprentice of the Year in a college awards ceremony.

Lucy Chadwick (18), of Birchenlee Lane, scooped the prize for her work at Touch Hair and Beauty in Market Street.

The teenager, who has now completed her Level Two in hairdressing, was selected for her attendance, helpfulness and “excellent hairdressing skills”. She has now been taken on as a full-time member of staff at Touch.

Lucy said: “It felt good to win, and I am quite proud.”

Her assessors Kathryn Walsh and Karen Warne added: “Lucy joined the college on its pre-apprenticeship programme and was found a placement working at Touch in Colne. She has been a pleasure to teach.”

And joint-owner of Touch, Catherine Kippax, said: “Lucy’s been fantastic and fully deserves the title.”
