THIEVES have targeted a Colne business, stealing a safe containing thousands of pounds and causing extensive damage.

Prestige Karting at Holker Mill was broken into just after midnight on Friday, August 5th.

Owners believe the burglars climbed in through the roof, smashing though doors to make their way to the office, where they ripped up the safe from the floor.

Manager, Craig Gavagen said: “I think it must have been planned, they obviously knew where the safe was, as it is well hidden. They walked past the till without touching it and went straight into the office.

“It’s really unfortunate as we never usually leave money in the safe, we hadn’t managed to get to the bank so all the takings were there and the rent.”

Police are appealing for information regarding the incident and are reviewing CCTV footage of the break-in.

The owners have also offered a reward for information leading to an arrest and prosecution of those responsible.

Mr Gavagen said: “We are still open for business fortunately, but this is a real kick in the teeth. We are a small business, struggling to pay the rent and when something like this comes along it is really disheartening.”

Anyone with information should contact Colne police on 472441 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
