“Leave it on show, expect it to go” — that is the message from Lancashire Police following a number of car thefts in Colne.

As part of a drive to reduce the number of offences in the area, bright yellow signs have been erected in car parks across Trawden and Wycoller. Various items, including a camera and a handbag, have been stolen in the past couple of months.

PCSO Trish Thompson from the Colne rural neighbourhood policing team said: “I hope that by displaying the signs in the these areas signs help to remind motorists about removing their things from display.

“If a passing thief sees something that may be of value inside a car, they will take their chances.

“I’d like to remind people that the warning doesn’t just apply to car parks. Motorists should never leave items on show when they leave their cars.”
