A Colne GP’s practice has been given a clean bill of health by inspectors.

Colne Family Practice run by Dr Arun Jha has received an overall rating of good in its latest inspection report following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission, the regulatory body that assesses NHS services.

Safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness and leadership provided by the practice, were all rated good in the CQC report, following a visit and rigorous assessment.

The practice was found to be well equipped to treat and meet patient needs and the practice was found to seek and act upon patient and staff feedback. During the inspection, staff commented that they felt well supported by their management and that they had received training relevant to their roles.

Following the inspection, the practice received an assessment of outstanding for diabetes care, most notably for their weekly diabetes group with a specialist diabetes nurse and GP. The practice also holds evening education sessions on diabetes for patients.

Dr Arun Jha said: “I’m really pleased with the report, the Care Quality Commission are rigorous and it can be quite stressful to be inspected by an independent body, but the staff at the practice work extremely hard to ensure that our patients receive a good standard of care and it is heartening to achieve this result as it pays testament to the hard work of everyone at the practice.

“I am pleased that our patients are happy with the service we provide too.”

The practice, which is located in the Colne Health Centre in Craddock Road, was inspected by the CQC on December 1st.

The practice has 2,774 registered patients, with a higher than the national average number of their patients, aged 60 or over.

Dr Phil Huxley, Chairman of NHS East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “This is excellent news. GP practices are members of the CCG and I would like to congratulate Dr Arun Jha and his team on receiving an overall good outcome from the Care Quality Commission.

“Such inspections are quite daunting for GPs and their teams but Dr Jha’s patients can be assured by this positive bill of health.”
