A Colne nursery school is set to benefit from a storytelling project following a successful £15,000 funding bid to Arts Council England.

Newtown Nursery School will be one of five local schools to be involved with “Stories Alive!” - which aims to raise children’s language and literacy skills through exciting, original and creative opportunites within nursery and the local environment.

They will be working with a range of artists to encourage children, parents and staff to gain confidence and skills in storytelling.

Collaborative events between the nursery schools and artists will be held in Burnley, and individual activities will take place in each school.

Project manager and environmental storyteller Gordon McLellan is “very impressed” with the project’s ambitions and will be supporting the nurseries to create lasting resources which nursery school children will be able to benefit from in future years.
