Coun. Nawaz Ahmed elected new Mayor of Pendle

Pendle’s new Mayor – Labour’s Coun. Nawaz Ahmed – was elected at the Annual Council Meeting last night.

Coun. Ahmed, who is a Brierfield councillor, will be joined by his wife and daughter Mrs Azmat and Usma Ahmed who will be the joint new Mayoress.

Conservative Coun. Rosemary Carroll was elected as the Deputy Mayor at the meeting at Nelson Town Hall.

And there was praise to the retiring Mayor and Mayoress, Coun. Graham Roach and his wife Mrs Joanna Roach, who have had a very busy Mayoral year during which they were also married,

The new Mayor was warmly welcomed to the role and is planning a busy year in office.
