Anger at hanging basket ‘vandalism’ in Nelson

A COUNCILLOR has described those responsible for pulling down hanging baskets from a canopy in Scotland Road, Nelson, as “mindless vandals”.

Coun. Eileen Ansar, who serves on both Nelson Town Council and Pendle Council, said the town council had invested a lot of money in the baskets and could not understand why anyone would want to destroy them.

A number of the baskets were ripped down overnight between Sunday and Monday.

One was left on top of a telephone kiosk, while others were left on the ground, and Coun. Ansar said she would be speaking to the police to see if CCTV cameras were operating at the time and had captured what had happened.

“We are really annoyed at this,” said Coun. Ansar.

“We have spent a lot of money trying to make Nelson town centre look better and then someone comes along and does this.

“It is nothing more than mindless vandalism and is an absolute disgrace.”
