Police are appealing for information after two burglaries in Barnoldswick.

A distraction burglary occurred on Saturday in Federation Street between 7pm and 8pm where an elderly woman was the victim.

A female offender, described as slim, aged between 30 to 40-years-old and wearing dark clothing, knocked on the victim’s door walking with a limp claiming to have had an accident.

The woman was invited in, and the victim only realised her black handbag had been stolen when the offender left. Inside were cards, bank books and a door key.

PC Matt Lunney said: “Clearly this is a despicable crime and the apprehension of this offender as soon as possible would be the best possible result. The victim is elderly and was acting out of kindness which only adds to the appalling nature of this crime.”

A day earlier on Friday, December 5th between 1-45pm and 4pm, a house in Lower West Avenue was burgled.
