A NELSON man was arrested as a result of a chance meeting with his ex-partner on a bus.
Blackburn magistrates heard Anthony Watson sat with his child on the bus and later sent a text message which put him in breach of a non-molestation order.
Mr Graeme Parkinson (defending) said the text message simply thanked Watson’s ex-partner for letting him speak to the child and asked if there was anything she wanted for the boy.
“There was no mischief in the call,” said Mr Parkinson. “He was so pleased that things had gone well on the bus and he just wanted to say thank you.”
Watson (36), of Belgrave Street, Nelson, pleaded guilty to breach of the non-molestation order. He was fined £50 with £45 costs.
Mr Parkinson said Watson was with his new partner when he unexpectedly bumped into his former partner on the bus.
“He thought it had been a very pleasing and fortunate encounter but the next thing he knew he was arrested and spent a night in the cells,” he added.
