A Conservative member of Pendle Council has denied being involved in the murder of a family member in Pakistan last year.
Coun. Abdul Aziz, a councillor for Walverden Ward in Nelson who defected from Labour last month, is one of four men named on court warrants in Pakistan in connection with the killing of his cousin Mohammed Ilyas in the village of Domain in Gujrat province in May, 2012.
But he said this week that the murder had nothing to do with him and vowed to clear his name of the allegations against him.
He said: “I don’t know who has accused me or why I am named.
“This is an incident which has devastated my family.
“This has nothing to do with me. I was in Nelson at the time.”
Labour members of Pendle Council have called on Coun. Aziz to resign over the matter.
